Hi everyone,
I’m just wondering if anyone else is in the same boat as we are, or has been through this. My daughter, Nola, just turned 9 months old, and she is showing zero interest in crawling. She is a very happy and social baby, she sits up unassisted perfectly, babbles “mamama” and “dadada” all day, and can roll across the entire living room to get where she wants to go. But she just won’t get up on her hands and knees.
I know the number one rule is not to compare your baby to others, but it is so incredibly hard! A few of the moms in my local group have babies the same age or even a bit younger who are already crawling everywhere and even starting to pull up to stand on furniture. I see the videos and can’t help but feel a little pang of anxiety that maybe I’m not doing enough to help her hit this milestone. The work-life balance has been so tough since I went back to my job, and I worry that she’s not getting enough floor time, even though we try to maximize it.
I’ve read all the articles that say there’s a wide range for normal development and that some babies skip crawling altogether and go straight to walking. I’ve tried all the recommended tricks – tons of tummy time (which she tolerates, but doesn’t love), putting her favorite toys just out of reach, getting on the floor to show her how it’s done. I just want to make sure I’m doing everything I possibly can for her. I guess I’m looking for some reassurance. Did any of your little ones take a bit longer to get moving? Is there some magic trick I’m missing, or should I just relax? At what point would you actually consider it a concern to bring up with a pediatrician?
Thanks so much for reading and for any advice you can share!
